3 Things That You Have To Consider When Investing In A Home Extension

Things to think about when extending your home

Does your home feel like it’s shrunk over the years? That’s what happens when you make additions to your family and overly hoard items around the house.

What’s the best solution? Well, you can try having a clearout, but if that doesn’t establish enough space, the next step will be to either extend the building or move house.

If you have a deep emotional attachment to your home and hate the thought of leaving it, getting a home extension installed is the right route to take.

ERG Scotland can take care of that for you, but there are a few points that need addressing first.

Will you need planning permission to extend?

This won’t be the case if the extension meets the limits and conditions necessary to be classed as a Permitted Development – you can just get on with having it built.

You are always advised to contact your local authority to check if Permitted Development Rights apply, or whether a planning application needs to be put together and submitted.

And what about building regulations approval? It might be needed for an extension. For confirmation of this, reach out to your local building control officer for advice.

Have you figured out a budget?

You need to sit down and go through your finances to work out how much money you will be able to put towards an extension.

Quizzing you about your available budget will be one of the first questions asked of you by our team as they need to know what it is in order to create some possible concepts that fit with it.

We promise that we will not go over budget and will stick to the price agreed at the time of purchase.

Is it likely to add value to the house?

When provided by a well-renowned home extension specialist like ERG Scotland, it’s virtually guaranteed to put pounds on the price of your house.

By how much it will increase its value can depend on a number of things, such as how well-integrated the extension is, its size, the quality of the build, the depth of detail throughout the extension, and several other factors.

From previous projects, we should be able to give you a decent idea of the value you can expect it to bring to your house.
