This heightened awareness is shared by a majority of British residents, with 76.5% of us expressing increasing concern about our home’s safety during the autumn months, according to a survey by security experts, ADT. Yet, even with this awareness, burglary rates remain dishearteningly high in various regions of the country.
To underscore the importance of taking proactive measures to safeguard your home, October is designated as National Home Security Month, an annual campaign that began in 2013. Doors
Doors often serve as the entry points targeted by burglars, with 76% of domestic burglaries in England and Wales involving entry through a door, as reported by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
One common technique employed by burglars is lock snapping, which targets door cylinders that extend beyond the depth of a £1 coin. To address this vulnerability, we offer composite doors within our replacement door range.
These doors are equipped with 3-star locking cylinders, featuring the highest security rating to resist attacks. They adhere to the standards of PAS 24, TS007, and Building Regulations Part Q.
Windows
ONS data also reveals that around 30% of burglaries occur through a window. Burglars commonly employ tools such as screwdrivers, chisels, or bars to force open windows or attempt to dislodge the glazed unit.
For an effective defence, consider ERG Scotland’s UPVC windows, which feature a robust 9-point locking system. This system includes two high-compression bolts and heavy-duty ‘Herculean’ hinges. Moreover, we use an internal beading system in our UPVC windows, making it exceedingly challenging for anyone to remove the panes from the outside.
