How To Get Your House Front Looking Festive

One of the best things about Christmas is seeing the brilliantly imaginative, and sometimes questionable, ways that people have decorated their front of their homes in time for Santa’s hotly-anticipated arrival.

If you haven’t yet decorated the outside of your property, it probably stands out like a sore thumb, looks bare, and dare we say it, leaves you looking a bit of a Grinch.

You need to get into the spirit of the season, before it’s too late, or else risk being put on the naughty list!

Get out there and give it a series of festive touches, starting with that all-important front door…

Hang a wreath on the front door

Wreaths date back to the time of the Romans who would display them as a symbol of victory, before they were then adopted by the Christian faith to observe the advent season.

If you fancy making your own wreath, you will need a metal ring or thick wire, twine, foliage, decorations, ribbon etc., or you could just cheat and buy a pre-made wreath from a local florist.

To avoid damaging the door, use removable plastic hooks to hang the wreath.

Outdoor fairy lights

Draw attention to your decorating efforts by putting up a string of (waterproof) fairy lights outside that emit a bright white glow.

So that you don’t have to rely on a nearby mains socket, opt for battery-powered fairy lights that you can wrap around the bare branches of a tree or get some gutter hooks and have the lights hang from your roofline.

Use them indoors too and place a pretty line of fairy lights around your fireplace.

Make your Christmas tree visible

Nothing says Christmas more than a pretty Christmas tree, so don’t hide it away from view.

Put it as close as you can to your front window where people will be able to see it as they walk or drive past.

It will tell them that you’re full of festive cheer and counting down the hours to the big day.

You could also add some snowy cut-outs to the window. Leave it to the kids to do that.

While we’re on the topic of windows, ERG Scotland has an extensive choice of energy efficient replacement windows if your home feels a bit too cold at Christmas. Get a FREE quote on them now in readiness for an installation in the New Year.
