Any opportunist thieves in your area will be rubbing their hands as it will potentially present them with a better chance of breaking into poorly protected houses, perhaps even yours, undetected.
This is one of the reasons why October is officially National Home Security Month, a national initiative aimed at reminding property owners of the importance of ensuring their home security is up to scratch.
To keep thieves at bay and out of your own cherished home, ERG Scotland has compiled a trio of top security tips that you should take on-board:
Your windows and doors will be a prime target for thieves. Any flaws and deficiencies in them will easily exploited by a thief that knows every trick in the book.
Original, or any generally old windows and doors, that have a noticeable give in them, even when they’re locked, should be taken out and exchanged for our modern windows and doors, which all come with advanced locking mechanisms.
In contemporary society, people often like to take to social media to tell their followers they’re on holiday somewhere hot and exotic.
But, when tagging themselves in at a foreign bar or nightclub, they don’t take into consideration who else could be snooping at their profile, which can prove costly if their privacy settings aren’t setup correctly.
So that a thief doesn’t gain awareness of your absence from home online, save any holiday-related posts until you return.
While we’re on the topic of holidays, before you do your packing and head for the airport, see if someone you trust would be kind enough to keep an eye on your house.
Provide them with a spare key so that they can remove any post from your letterbox and open and close your curtains to hopefully disguise the fact that the property is unoccupied for a week or two.
Our most secure window offerings are in our EXTREME range. Available in four window styles, they come with a massive 20 year guarantee. You will feel as safe as houses with EXTREME windows.
Early signs suggest that this winter will be a very chilly one as we’re only in the middle of November and temperatures are already below…
